Interesting discussion on the comparative sports capability of the Storm, which got me to think, loads of you have stacks of knowledge and experience of the bike so ....
...... what five things would you do, and in what order, to make a stock Storm a superstock Storm and even more loveable?

Re: Making it more sporty!?
ignoring the CCT and R/R fixes, which I hope you have done already...............if not stop typing and get them done NOW
My list is:
1) fit loud pipes, even taking the baffle out of stock pipes is good enough
2) Front forks with stiffer springs and thicker oil [or get them worked over by Revolution racing which is best]
3) 3 to 6mm spacer under back shock to raise ride height and speed up the turn into corners
4) upgrade front brakes to bigger calipers and matching master cylinder
5) fit weight related spring to back shock, or better still get an aftermarket back shock with spring to suit, then you have good damping control as well.
then ride it till you need new tyres, add new tyres and repeat

before making it sporty make it reliable - add manual CCTs, and if necessary replace early R/R with later or equivalent.
Rider to lose weight (cheaper than carbon fibre), throw money at sorting forks and rear shock, race cans and rejet to suit...
or just check the specs to this Morawaki Storm http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16013
get the cheque book out

1, suspension upgrades
2, air filter/jets/pipes
3, Avon storm ultra 2 tyres
4, cafe racer seat unit
5, 60's dunstall top fairing
I got #5 waiting till spring to put on, i get pipes tomorrow and the tyres got life in them so won't change them yet. #1 will come soon probably get a 929 fork conversion on the bubble and decent shock

Go on ... what do they do then. I'm going to ride mine through the winter then take it off the road to be overhauled starting with the front forks. Can they paint them as well?AMCQ46 wrote: .... or get them worked over by Revolution racing which is best ....

Wow - that looks brilliant

Roger is the man behind the bikes shown in the link Wicky posted, he knows Firestorms inside out, he will happyly talk you through what works and what wont work, even if you dont buy things off him.SWAGGER wrote:Go on ... what do they do then. If you send the forks to him with details of your weight and type of riding, he will fit the correct springs re-machine the damper stack to work better and put in thicker oil......you could do 2 of those yourself, but getting the damping modified is worth the extra [in my opinion].
Talk to him and take it from there.

Re: Making it more sporty!?
My list would be something like this:-
(1) Fit after market can's or de-baffle standard can's so the engine can breath easier. (Do bear in mind some mot stations may require your standard can's to be fitted for the test)
(2) Have the front forks upgraded by Roger D at http://www.revolutionuk.co.uk/ [Spec depending on your riding and intended use (road use/track days)].
(3) With the now upgraded front you'll want to do something about the rear shock. I fitted a Maxton weight related spring to the standard shock on my bike. It's definitely better than the standard spring and relatively cheap compared to a brand new shock. If money is no object fit a new fully adjustable shock set up for your body weight.
(4) A cheap mod for good gain IMHO is lower the gearing slightly (IE a 43 tooth rear sprocket). This mod will make it easier around town etc and top gear will get more use.
(5) At this stage (you've now got your free flowing after market cans fitted), fit a free flowing air filter and jet kit. Then have it set-up properly on a dyno.
Chris.

Re: Making it more sporty!?
OK, here's mine:
1. Buy a spare Storm.
That'll mean you aren't precious about thrashing or dropping it, as you always have spares.
2. Fit a jet kit. That lets air and fuel in better.
3. fit freer-flowing exhaust- that lets burnt fuel/air out better
4. upgrade the air filter- see (2) above.
5. Get it set up on a dyno. That maximises the gains you get from the mods above. (and gives you a piece of paper to show off, which makes the work and money worthwhile!)
As to suspension?
Yes, that would need to be done as well, but the above five are cheaper, and once you've started modifying you won't stop, so sussie mods will happen in due course anyway.
But those who just replace front springs and oil, and maybe fit a rear shock quite often seem to stop at that.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Making it more sporty!?
I am with Tony on that one.
On my Storm I could ride around the handling issues, I dont think it was all that bad, forks were a bit soft but you could still launch it into twisties without any major ass crimping moments. Go Pipes, air filter and set up the fuelling as necessary depending on pipe/can choice. After that ride the crap out of it until the std suspension requires servicing, at that point upgrade to suit.
