What is this all about guys - Chain replacement 520 vs 530 vs Oring vs Xring ?
The cost of a 530 is double that of 520 and Xring is double O-ring.
And then some say use a standard roller bearing chain, it is cheaper, less HP is lost, just oil the chain regularly.
What does it all mean and which chain is advised to use for the VTR?

Gerrit

Re: Chain replacement 520 vs 530 vs Oring vs Xring
X-rings have marginally less pressure on each seal, therefore HP losses are reduced (slightly).
Neither will resist a blast from a pressure washer, and both will need lubricating just as often as a non- ring-sealed chain.
X-rings, in my experience, last longest and cost most.
520?
Only worth it if you're going racing and plan to replace the chain often, preferably every race or two. They're also slightly lighter, as well absorbing least HP.
As has been said on here many times, the recommended solution for Storms used regularly and in all weathers is a 530 x-ring chain and sprocket set fitted together (personally, I'd never replace a sprocket with also replacing the chain, and vice-versa), with a scottoiler or similar device.
Mine is still good after 20,000 miles, thrashed, daily use even in ice and snow, so salt, grit, dust, mud, rain, etc.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

the 530 o-ring i fitted back in march lasted 1500mles before i had to replace it,it just stretched and stretched until i had no adjustment left and it was a DID...now i have a tsubaki 530 x-ring fitted and haven't had to adjust it once in 1500mles....
