I've tried looking for the answers....honest!!!

Post by Snoogle »

After checking through the forums and reading all the bad stuff you guys seem to say about the Firestorms CCTs I thought I would check through the old girls history to see when they were replaced (now done just over 30k).

Seems as though they have never been done...oh dear!

As its going to be pulled apart soon for the spray (when I get round to it) it seems like a good time to get a few odds n sods done at the same time....

Now, I'm not one for adjusting parts on the bike all the time, once i find a set up I like i tend to stick with it.......so I'm going to replace the old ones with self adjusting CCTs...... looking on the David Silvers list, it seems as though there are only 2 parts I need to buy, the tensioner and the gasket (obviously I'll need 2 of each for each cylinder) but, I just needed to clarify this with somebody on here so I dont end up buying the wrong parts!!

Parts on David Silvers site I was gonna get.........

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/VTR1 ... art_66602/ x 2
http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/VTR1 ... art_66603/ x 2

Advice as always would be a great help :)

might i just say that since rebuilding mine with manual tensioners ive done over 14000 miles without adjusting them.
not many of them were slow miles lol.
for your average leisure rider that's more than a year's mileage.
having the peace of mind of manual tensioners and only needing to adjust (maybe just check) them annually....
new auto tensioners can still fail without warning.
your choice.

you only need 1 tensioner per cylinder - some say you don't need a gasket but i used them on mine
the parts you linked are the crrect parts - 2 of each, not 2 of each per cyl.

pm Rider on a Storm if you decide to go for the manuals - you won't find better quality & value.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Yeah, thats what I meant to type, early mornings and late nights dont agree with me lol

Ok thanks for that. I presumed it would be a regular thing to check like the drive chain? I take it Rider on a Storm makes manuals?
Got me thinking now.....

Would I need somebody to set the adjustment on the manuals or would they come pre-adjusted?? I really have no idea about internal parts.

er well whether you fit manual tensioners or auto there is still a method of installing them that you need to stick to.
whereabouts are you??? maybe a helpfull local member couldhelp fit them?
its easy enough if you follow the guide tho.

Order some from rider on the storm. £45 for the pair and they come with very easy instructions. I did mine and I'm useless with tools
