Question about rear shocks for short people

Post by Stormer Dave »

Most folks raise the bike at the rear shock and I know I;ve asked before about hagon, maxton, ohlins etc....but has anyone done the roger front end mod and reduced the height by say 25mm at the back shock?

Any news, help would be greatly received.

Also why can't you just drop the forks say 1 inch on the front through the yokes to speed up the steering...........remember folks it's new years not april fools day......so this may be a stupid question but it's a genuine one...

Happy New Year..... 8)
 complex personalities lead you to v-twin happiness......if you can get to turn in.......that is.....

if you drop the forks by 15mm or more the front gets very twitchy and unstable at low speed.
at high speed it's great though but i wouldnt recommend it - especially not with standard springs (it will bottom out even more than std)
you may be able to make up a custom linkage to lower the rear end, or maybe trim the seat down to lose an inch or so.
whatever you do, if you drop the rear you will need to drop the front to compensate or the handling will be terrible.
but then you will lose ground clearance so you could do with fitting rear sets to raise the pegs - even standard it's too easy to ground them.
also be carefull if you lower the bike you may need to bend the sidestand out a bit or it could tip over.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

You can get away with dropping forks and raising the rear, but you'll be needing a good steering damper to avoid it spitting you off.
Most shock builders will sort you out a shorter one than standard, I'd recommend contacting a few and seeing what they say- it's likely that they will have done this before so know what to avoid.

Bear in mind that it'll probably be more sensitive to worn tyres than standard.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
