New Lid?
Can anyone recommend a decent lid for under £200? About time I got a new one, and my b'days coming up in a couple of weeks.

I just checked on one new..
I had a look at new model recently - what puzzled me - it has a rear view system. Seriously. Don't laugh - it is there, and it works...
Lid itself are very nicely made too...made by company known before by bycicle lids

Here is information:
My current lid - OGK Aeroblade - are nice but noisy. Positive - it is balanced aerodynamically, so I was riding my previous bike (Hornet) at pretty high speeds without growing a bodybuilder neck
Also - just hought - if you want good lid and cheap buy - why don't you try helmet on in real shop and then go and order one from sell-out on biggest European on-line catalogue - Louis. They we always 100% reliable whatever I ordered from them, and shipment price are flat.

It is in German, but with Altavista Babelfish you will get there, and after 1 buy they give you customer number so that you do not have to fill all data every time...
They have Shoei Raid for 299 euro on sale now, and it is a good helmet , Nitro at 119 to 199 Euro (not bad leads actually) , good bunch of Sharks all under 250 Euro, and a loads of different Shoei at good prices, and some other...

I've got the aria quantum f and it's the best lid i've owned. Vveeeerryy light and ssssoooooo comfortable. I noticed the other week that their almost down to the £200 mark coz theve been superseeded by another model now. I bought her an AGV at the bike show this year and the aria feels like its about half the weight of it. Visor mech is soooo much nicer as well.
Rich.

eBay
Keep an eye out on eBay... I got lucky some time back and bag myself an Arai RX7RR for £230!!
(Brand new in the box
)
There are good deals going at the moment so keep an eye out.
The Nitro Helmets a great value for money according to the reviews.
Personally I would not wear any other helmet then Arai. (but that's just personal
) If I were you I'd spend a little extra and get an Astro Plain for £260,- (Washable insides and top fit & quality)http://www.eastcoastsuperbikes

Lids
Depends what your priority is. If it's price, the OGK is one of the best I've used. Very comfortable, good vents, removable linings etc. Bit noisy but I always use ear plugs for long trips anyway so...
I ride way too fast to worry about cholesterol.
Can't agree
Sorry -can't agree - saw and used quite a few lids and IMHO Arai not just best because it is Arai - they have different models, as well as other manufacturers. IMHO protection level they offer not higher than many other good similarly priced helmets.
As long as lid made of 3-composite or alloy composite and with good quality, got a D-strap and proper visor and been actually through R&D - protection it offers will be same. Especially as for many leads "skull" of helmet made by same third party company. For example - skulls for Sharks and several other helmets makes made by OGK.
If head punched with a force enough to disassemble lid to the level it does not absorbs energy anymore - no matter what lid you in anymore...

New lid
Have a good look at the FM W10 Mono.
Lid price is around the £85, Visors clear £25. The spares are dead easy to come by off the net and not expensive around £14, for sideplates and visor clips with next day delivery.
Try this link if you are interested http://www.fmhelmets.co.uk/index.html for pricing and range.
A recent MCN test gave them good ratings for impact resistance, have a look at the link if you are interested, gives the details of the MCN test if you are in any doubt about the quality

I find the lid comfy, good fit, bit noisy, but then again I always wear earplugs, ventilation ain't to bad. The visor clips have bust a couple of times from changing between clear and Irridium and cleaning the inside, but thats been alot of changes.
From what I hear, either Arai or Shoei, but I think it's Shoei are just about the most expensive noisy lid you can buy.

Slow in, slow out. Ohh err missus, now with added G-Force carbon fibre race cans. Sounds like a Spitfire.
Shoei Raid then - Badger
Done a bit of looking and trying, and the Shoei Raid Crow looks nice (red highlights to match the storm!)
anybody got any feedback on wind noise? (Not of the butt variety!)
Badger, I've been on the ebbdirect website but they want £199 for the Raid, how long ago was it when you bought yours? Did you buy off the web or mail order?
Cheers

Toolkit.
Don't limet yourself to a specfic/model. As long as the lid your are trying is an "A" class specification the best advise I can give you is to try on a few within your price range and then buy the one which fits the best. You will have better comfort and a higher level of protection with a good fit than any poor fitting £800.00 race lid.
