Need to borrow a chain rivet tool

Post by AMCQ46 »

As per title, I have a new Chain & sprocket kit on the way and will need the tool to join the chain up.

No huge rush as I am off to China for 2 weeks with work and dont plan to do the job till I get back, but apprciate being able to borrow one if possible.

If local to West Midlands I could collect, if not I am happy to pay postage and beer tokens.

Thnaks

Rivet it off the bike at your leisure - then remove the left footpeg and slide the chain in past the swingarm :) easier than faffing about under the bike

Yes, it's that easy.
Although the rivet tool makes it easier, personally I find it much easier to rivet the chain up on the workbench and if you're going to be fitting sprockets as well you already have tools out and it's a good chance to check and grease the shock linkage too.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Good tip, I had spotted that the Firestorm has no lower frame and that the chain could come off in one if you remove the lower foot rest mounting bolt, but didnt put 2 and 2 together and think how much easier it would be to do the rivetting on the bench.

Tony, I did the linkage before the winter so dont need to grease that again, but good tip for anybody who is doing a chain and hasnt already had the needle bearings out.

Chi Kung, Yes I might take you up on the loan if nobody in West Mids comes up. can you guestimate postage based on the weight?

And cheers the vacuum adapter arrived today - Had me puzzled as I couldn't remember ordering a vacuum pipe amongst all my clutch bits 'n' bobs but eureka when I saw the adapter.

Yes I did disguise the adapter by putting it in the pipe! Remember to take off the o-ring and use threadlock
