CCT advice please........

Post by encee »

Evenin` all, brand newbie here (but not to biking).........although one or two of you may recognize me from the biker forum, as I`ve been scrounging advice on there as well :biggrin (maybe FirestormMike ?)......??

Anyway, although biking quite a long time, I`m absolute rubbish when it comes to fixing my own bikes. I do have SOME knowledge (not a total numpty  ), but my hands won`t seem to do what my head tells me they should when I get near to mechanical stuff......which leads me to my question:

As per the title; the CCT thing...........

I really do fancy a Storm (had one before around 10/12 years ago, so I remember how good they were), but back then, most were still low mileage, so the CCT problem wasn`t an issue, or maybe it WAS, and many didn`t know about it because there was no Interweb back then for mere mortals right ?

Anyway, are the CCT failures as bad as I`m lead to believe,ie, it`s probably THE only thing worrying me about getting another Storm, as I`m worried about getting one, then the CCT goes, and I`m left with a circa £600 bill, as I`m unable to fix my own !

Advise as you see fit please........and thanks in anticipation....... :Beer Popcorn:

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Can't see where the £600 bill comes in, even a complete engine is only £399.
Most time the cct failing will just bend two or four valves, still less than £150 to fix.

But cheaper sill is fitting manuals (£40 should get you a pair) and fit them yourself- it's really quite simple if you follow the instructions on here and not the Haynes.

Go on, you know you want to.......
Anyway, lots of bikes have them fitted already by now.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Cheers gents..... :cool2

Tony: Maybe I`m well over on the £600 estimate (which is obviously a good thing LOL); just thought I`d seen it either on here, or one of the other bike forums that it was around that.......?

Anyway, as you say, I may well drop on one (when I`m ready to buy, which should be within the month) that has already had it done.

Let`s hope so........

On the other hand if you want to pay me £600 to fix it after you had the cct go I'd be happy to take the work on.......

LOL, nice reply Tony........

I live in Lancs though, so if you`re coming up on the Storm, the fuel alone`s gonna cost more than the £200 extra you`ll make aint it ?......... :biggrin

Good point, and strapping a spare engine and my toolkit on the back won't help fuel economy much either.

Probably best to just fit manuals after all.

Second thoughts, gonads; it's a good excuse for a ride out, you're on.

Let me know when you want me there.

where in lancs?
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
