problem after fitting High Level Cans

Post by davros »

Hi guys just run my storm after fitting Leo Vince High level cans and I'm getting a load of unburnt fuel going through the exhaust when I shut off, flames out the back and some pretty loud bangs, also noticed some black smoke when the engine is reved. has anyone had the same problems. I've just bought a free flow air filter, do you think this plus a re-jetting session on the rolling road will sort it out ?

By the way the new cans sound awesome but a bit loud! :)

You have air entering the system somewhere. Check all the joints.
Did you use new copper compressible o-rings in the head/exhaust ports?

The pops and bangs are unburnt fuel re-igniting in the system as fresh oxgen mixes with the hot ex. gases.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I'm sure there is a small leak where the header joins the link pipe on the rh side, I'll have to make it fit better, but i still think it's worth a tune up on the rolling road just to be on the safe side.

if they're brand new cans the black smoke could just be waxing in the link pipes and cans.
if it is it'll burn off soon enough.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

KneeWobblers wrote:The black smoke you mention also points to it running rich, did it show black smoke before cos after fitting faster breathing cans it should lean down the system. Saying that if you are revving with the choke on or at a standstill the bike would show signs of being rich as the bike isnt moving and not drawing the normal amount of air as if it were running on the road. Id get someone to follow you after making sure the headers were fixed properly.
come to think of it the bike was on the stand when i noticed the black smoke, if this does make it run richer how do they tune bikes on a rolling road, do they allow for the fact the bike is stationary? :confused

The only difference would be for bikes with ram-air, not a Storm trait as standard.

But I'm having a little play to see what difference it'll make.....
