19 litre tank

Post by wee nor »

Hi guys, I bought my storm around four years ago intending to use it purely as a track bike. The I.D. plate had been removed from the frame and once reading loads of posts, I decided to rebuild it into a V5 frame and stick it on the road. Now after fully rebuilding with loads of mods, I read my trusty Haynes manual 98-00 to discover the fuel tap is different on mine ! It must be a later model with the outlet going to an external vac pump ? The tank also has two outlet pipes, are they breathers ? I found a rubber hose connected to a tee piece lying in my box of "bits still to fit". Help please !!!!!

Ah, well now, it's the early ones with the 16 L tanks that have a vacuum operated fuel tap.
The two other pipes (one has a reducer section) are breathers from the tank and the filler cap area.

Do you still have a logo on the tank?
If it's "firestorm" then it'll be the early one, if a Honda wing it'll be the later 19 L one, which doesn't have a vac operated tap.

Neither have a vacuum pump, it's a pipe connected to the inlet tract on the rear cylinder, which opens the tap as soon as a vac is generated.

Only XL1000 Varadeeros and SPY, SP1 and SP2 have a fuel pump as standard, but it's not unknown (especially for racing or track use) to fit one.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for your feedback. The tank is original and has the Honda logo on, which implies it is a later model. I just presumed the external vac unit was a pump of some sorts. Cheers.
