Fork lowers pitted - anyone sorted theirs?

Post by bandsawman »

My fork lowers are a bit pitted, I was wondering if anyone's had any success at reviving theirs?

Blimey, they were pitted!
Suddenly mine don't seem so bad... But what a difference eh? Good job done there mate

(I've just read the original thread as well)

So the original finish is lacquer is it? Not sure what to do now...

i did the same as wicky

i did them satin black but didnt bother with the lacquer, i figured if i didnt get it right and it started too corrode under the lacquer it was a big job to put right.

Here's what I did with mine, I used Simoniz 5 silver wheel paint:-

You can make your own mind up on the colour from the pic's. I have a feeling they may be a little lighter in colour than standard.

I did a deal with one of our members for these fork legs in exchange with my originals. The reason being these have been breathed on by Roger Ditchfield at Revolution UK. In-other-words they have been up graded. They came to me in black, but the guy who painted them must have done so with them still fitted. See pic's they speak for themselves. I removed the old paint and lacquer using Nitromors paint stripper, that made the job easy. You'll have to decide yourself whether to paint or polish them. Polish IMO looks the best, but you have to keep at it. Probably not too bad if you don't ride the bike all year around.

As I received them in black

Old paint etc now removed

Now all re-sprayed ready to fit

PS. And before anyone mentions it, I know I made a small mistake by not painting right up to the top of the fork legs. I thought the fork protectors when fitted would have covered that part completely, but as you can see they didn't.

That estate agent isn't going to sell many houses with a name like that... :D
I likes "perty" in the previous picture though.....
