Anyone recognise my cans?

Post by flak monkey »

I know they are Microns, but anyone know which model or any more info on them?

I have a feeling they are going to be way too loud for 7am work runs...as I get on ok with my neighbours!

Quite small diameter. Unsure if they are baffled or not. They arent marked with the BSAU mark, or with anything saying 'race use' or similar.

I run a Beowulf can on my SV which sounds really nice without being overly loud with the baffle fitted. So if the Microns are too much I will probably get a pair of those to fit instead.

Just wondered if anyone had any idea on which they were and any views on them at all...?

I've got microns on mine with The BS standard on them, i think and i'm sure someone will correct me that for road use they need the BS standard mark o state for road use, mine are oval shaped though and look better on the faster red models
98% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home Image

I've got a pair of Microns marked 'not for road use' yup very car alarm setting off noisy as nature intended. Also picked up a quieter road legal set of Micron cans for Mots (though they turn a blind eye now to the noisy cans - which the Police have said they like the sound of them!) Plus I've still got the mega heavy factory originals for high tides as the micron aluminium can look a bit rough with the winter salt.

If as you say there's nothing on them to indicate they're not for road use then you should be okay but not in the spirit of the law. Presumably your bike came with an MOT with them on... Does it look the marks were ground / polished out? Does it have a different airfilter as it might be tuned to run with the cans it has on.

I've sometimes kept my quieter cans on over winter, when I'm not so inclined to thrash around plus the neighbours had a baby and so I gave them a bit of peace of quiet. Though it didn't help in giving me a forewarning in hearing CCT death rattle.

Not had a chance to have a look and see if its had anything else done to be honest as I havent picked it up yet... I dont believe it has though. I should be picking it up this weekend if I get some money sorted so will have a closer inspection then.

They havent had anything groud or polished off, theres a few markings on the back end of the can, but I cant remember off the top of my head what they were. I do know they werent the usual marks though. I had a good look when I did the deal on the bike. It goes through the MOT with them fitted OK.

Thats great, thanks :) They may well be E marked somewhere then, as it says that Deltas are. If thats the case then I am happy. Whether I decide if I like the sound of the Microns, I'll have to see. :) Anyone know what a secondhand set of Microns are worth ?

Have you actually heard yours running/had a ride which will give you an indication of wether the cans are baffled or not. Just sayin as it's not clear from your posts.

Here are pics of my Micron Road Legal cans and naughty Cans

Thanks for those. I have had it running in the dealers, but it was difficult to tell from that as it was a pretty small area.

They definately didn't have the BSAU mark on the end can. I didnt look under the tailpipe to see if the not for road use was under there.

interesting that.... microns.....
yes, there is a BS mark stamped on the end plate - but have a squint underneath the outlet pipe & what do you see stamped on it???

i won't tell you - post back pls

ah, you know then lol!!! sorry mate didnt see you'd posted that.
mine passed mot with a set marked like that, just a cautionary.

what i would like to know is why the crouton do they call them 'race cans' when you cant get on a track day with anything over 103-106 (depending who the tdo is)

i got my lasers down to 99db with my home made baffles (which arent actually baffles, theres no restriction, just a bend to reflect the sound wave)

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll have a closer look when I pick the bike up which might be this weekend if I sort some cash out in time

If they are too noisy, they'll have to go and I'll put the cash towards a different set of baffled cans. If that is the case, anyone have any recommendations? Like I said ^^ I like the sound of the Beowulf cans and they are a good price new and well made. But I haven't heard any of the different cans on the VTR's...

PCH58 = VTR-1000 twin polished aluminum round race slip-ons $670

http://store.micronexhaust.com/index.ph ... l=VTR-1000

Probably US import or before micron in UK went bust (July 2008) - technically naughty (hence no BS mark)
