Re: cam chains
cam chains are good mine done 60000 miles and the chains are still good but you may want to change the cam chain tensioners for manuals as they have a tendency to let go without warning
Re: cam chains
I agree, never heard of any cam chains going but have heard a tale or two of cam chain tensioner s going

Re: cam chains
if you mean the plastic guides you will need to remove the water pump & clutch casing for the rear then the timing casing, flywheel & starter gear for the front.stevevtr wrote:what are these cam followers like to change mines a 2002 model ,,,thanks
they are quite cheap for what they are... quite an important bit tbh.
they do wear over time.
while you're at that stage it might be worth having a look at the oil pump chain.... i couldnt believe how slack mine is (the chain!!!) i d ont know if that's normal or what - maybe someone else can comment?
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: cam chains
Yep, water pump chain is always horribly slack.
There's no tensioner, and they have to be slack enough to get the sprocket on with the chain attached, so can't be very tight from new.
But there's very little effort needed to turn the water pump, so no problems with a slack chain.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
