got this funny slapping sound after a short run out this morning...it runs smooth and pulls great tho so was wodering if anyone has any ideas what it is
i think you will find your camchain tensioner has failed m8.....
wait for someone else to confirm, but until you have ruled it out i suggest you dont ride the bike or even start it.
dont want to scare you like, but i could see in the vid you have standard auto tensioners fitted.....
heard that sound before.
i think you need to get in touch with rider on a storm asap m8
whereabouts do you live btw?

i really hope it isn't the cct's as their both brand new ones and i did have one fail on a rideout and it sounded very different(like an old dumper) to the slapping sound i'm getting now
i checked the timing when it had a mis-fire and all the timing marks was spot on and the cam chain wasn't slack,it does run smooth and pull like a train tho ,i've resently balanced the carbs too.
tbh it sounds to be coming from the clutch housing or around that general area.
yeh let someone else hear it with better speakers m8 - im only on a netbook thingy atm.
does sound rather omenous though.
new tensioners???? doesnt mean sh1t sry - they are made of reformed cornflakes.
what's the action like on the clutch lever??? they make a noise if they need bleeding?
very hard to diagnose of a vid lol!
hope it's nothing too serious, but imo you really want to get them spring driven things off.

clutch feels nice and smooth, not stiff or dragging and the storm does suffer for niosey clutches and mines no exception but it does go quiet when the leaver is pulled in....tbh it is only the second run since being stored for due to snow n ice and i'd forgotten how quick it gets to 130...the micron pipes doesn't make listening to any noises easy either.
i'm in knottingley w/yorks..is there anyone near me to take it too and them have a listen to it???a fresh pair of ears might locate the noise better than ones thats use to hearing the thunder it makes...and it does make alot of noise.
im in hunslet on friday pm m8.... might be able to tie up possibly.
hopefully its sorted itself out by then lol

was going to squires at sherbun no friday pm but will change plans if need be...pm me where your going to be and if it's not any better by then i'll meet you.
now you've got me thinking what it could be i'm going to check and recheck everything and bleed the clutch too as fluid looks to be just getting dirty.
Not really able to tell exactly what is happening from the sound on that video. It does (as you say) sound louder around the clutch area I agree in which case I doubt it's a failed CCT.
If someone lives near Tattoo perhaps they could have a listen to the bike
after changeing the fluid the sound from the cluch side was alot quieter...the bike has done around 36000mls so is it time to replace the clutch bearing(s) and put a new clutch in...altho the clutch feels fine with no grabbing or slipping??
if youve been doing regular oil changes and theres no slip there is no need to change the bearings or plates bud.
36k is crouton all for a well serviced engine imo
glad its sorted itself out for you.
but get some manuals fitted ffs!
