Which jet kit?

Post by tinysmall »

Don't know if this belongs here or in the workshop section, so apologies if it needs moving.

Im thinking about fitting a jet kit (already got end cans and k&n fitted) but don't know which one to go for. What are the pro's and cons of dynojet vs the factory pro kits and what real world advantage can I expect?

Also, what do you lot reckon to Nitron shocks?

tbh i think you'd get better results with the fp over dynojet.
their kit (imo) is a bit hit & miss though others may disagree...

cant comment on the shock sry as ive never tried them but i think amcq has one?
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Tiny,
I used the DJ kit and never got the fueling to be perfect with the K&N, always had a power dip at about 4000rpm, but I ended up swapping the K&N for a BMC and now I am happy. From what I read on the USA site, I think this is mostly an issue with the K&N filter rather than the jet kit, and people had problems with both DJ and Factory pro.

As for Nitron, I am very pleased with mine.........I got the road spec one with hydraulic preload adjuster......., but i had to tell them what spring rate I wanted, as they were going to fit one which I knew was to stiff [because I had tried it on my 1st WP shock].
I had spoken to Roger Dichfield and used his reccomendation on the WP so I told Nitron to use the same rate, and I have to say the Nitron is a better shock than the WP and and I am very pleased with it.

I went for the FP jet kit, and I run a K+N, it came with the bike when I bought it and so is over four years old now, but with a soapy hot water rinse and re-oiling it still works fine.
I have had the bike properly set up on a dyno, and so there's no flat spot anywhere.
I guess the best advice is whichever one you get, set it up on a dyno, find someone who knows these engines and has done them before.
Ask the dyno operator to show you maps of ones he's done before, and you can see the before and after graphs which will show if he dials out the flat spot properly.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Tony, who's the guy you use? Does he do a same day turnaround? North Kent ain't really that far from me taken in the context of a day out and the only dyno places I know around here are the Suzuki garages and they charge a bloody fortune. I know it won't be cheap no matter where I go but I would rather travel the distance to get someone who knows what he's doing over paying through the nose for some goon at the local Suzuki dealership to butcher my bike.

I use HM Racing, they've just moved to a big posh place in Edenbridge, Kent.
Thoroughly nice people, too. Dave usually answers the phone.

They don't always open Mondays, as they sometimes go to tracks all weekend for setup and dyno work.

You can also order the jet kit through them, and they'll be able to do you a better all in price than buying it elsewhere. (but check prices- you never know).

Straightline Racing are the UK importers.

I'll be over at HM doing some dyno runs Wednesday, assuming they have time available.
I'll ask them if they want to do a forum discount deal.

That would be good :D
Ta for that. Had a look at their webby and it's a short jaunt down the M25 for me. Not far at all. If the wife passes her DAS later this month, I might treat myself next time I get paid :)

Well, I asked, and they don't do discounts, but even at their standard charge I think it's good value.

I had about a dozen runs done Tuesday, including the experienced (on Storms) and knowledgeable tech supplying and fitting a spare vac take-off as mine disappeared down the road when I was riding down there, I thought the exhaust system had split!

Printouts and comparisons against previous runs, and a nice touch, a free folder to keep them in.
You're not rushed, and advice is free, and in the event that you need jets changed or anything like that they have loads in stock.

All for £50 plus vat.

Still recommended as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going to copy this over to the Best Service thread as well.
