Signwriters vinyl

Post by tinysmall »

My bike is going in for a lick of paint over the next few days as Im fitting some fairing lowers and wanted bits of the bike done in the same colour. If signwriters vinyl is applied on the paint BEFORE the lacquer, will it stick properly and will it look as shiny as the paint or will the lacquer just melt it or something? Has anyone done this to their bikes? And if so, how did it turn out?

you can laquer over vinyls no probs, your paint sprayer should give you advice on what types to get,

Thats ok mate, most paint shops recommend laquering over vinyls as it helps protect them

As above m8, done a re-spray for a m8 who had a xs 1100 and wanted gold decals, lacqured over it with 2 pac clear and no problems, looked bitchin and u will not be able to peel them off, just be careful clear dont build up in corners of decals risk of a run.

as above, in most cases stickers vinyl, etc can be lacquered over no problem, the only ones that can't (well they can but it ruins the effect) are the 3D effect carbon fibre wrap vinyl ( 3M di-noc and similar), these vinyl’s are very good and look remarkably like the real carbon fibre, I’ve just done the inner fairing scoops on my VTR and even the dash on my TVR Griff 500 and they look great but I tried to lacquer a test piece and it completely ruins the 3D effect, this wrap is getting more and more popular and a lot cheaper so if you do happen to use any either now in the future don’t lacquer it.
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R :D ,
Storm is now gone  .
