Carb Vacuum Gauges

Post by Storm Trooper »

Sorry it's been a while sice I have been on. Not had much time recently and the bike has been away since Sept... 8O

Any how, time to get it serviced and back on the road. Eventually got it started on Sat after a few attemps of hitting the button and nothing but clicking. Prob my fault for leaving it stored for the winter in the Garage without turning it over at all, as the starter motor had stuck. Even though the bike had been prepped for storage. 5 mins to remove and free off by hand, so it wasn't too bad, and fit again and Boom Boom Boom, God I missed that sound.

Any how servicing this weekend and dong the usual, Oil, Oil Filter, Air filter, Plugs and also to balance the carbs again since it has been about a year since i did them last.

My question is (eventually I hear you say) -

I have the vacuum gauges (2 dials on the blue back plate) and when connected up and with the engine running the needles are anything but static. Almost impossible to get a reading as they fluctuate soooo much. What I did last time was adjust so as both were moving at the same points on the dial.

Is this normal for these gauges or is there something I can do to get the needles on the gauges to be more steady? :confused

Cheers

Carbtune kit has restrictors that fit in the main vac lines, think they must be a 0.5 or 1mm bore, reduces the fluctuation quite a bit.

Leave them be,less fiddling. If you have to mess get some green air valves from a tropical fish shop to regulate the needles.

Turn the idle speed up, less chance for the needles to fluctuation with more bangs

easiest way is to twist some tie wire round the pipe with pliers.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
