what brakes?
what brakes?
Alnong with painting the wheels (another thread) I'm giving my VTR1000 a once over prior to taxing it Apr 1st ready for some decent weather (well I can hope ) in order to deal with it's handling issues it's getting some new fork springs and if funds allow a rear shock or if not maybe just a rear spring either way this should hopefully improve the soggy OE suspension and improve handling to go with the improved handling I'd like to improve the brakes, the front pads ( cheap ebay kyotos' fitted by the previous owner) are pretty new but I feel they lack initial 'bite' and overall power, struggling to trouble the old worn out Michelin tyre. I’m coming back to bikes after a few years lay off, in the past I found Honda OE replacement pads as good as any after market ones but I’ve had a quick look and the range of after market pads now available is quite bewildering so what I’m after is some opinions and recommendations to help me make an informed choice other wise it will be getting some of Hondas own along with some new fluid and braided hoses.
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R

Re: what brakes?
have a look at the goldfren ceramic carbon pads on ebay
theyre the same compound as the much more expensive ebc carbon pads.
they bite very well, respond well to repeated hard braking as they work better when hot.
they also last very very well too - i did over 10k with them last year but they are ready for changing before it goes back on the road.
not much disc wear either as they dont have metal sintering.
theyre about £40 for a complete set- 2x front & back
regarding the rear spring... ftr suspension do yacugar replacement progressive rear springs.
if you take your shock to them they will fit it free, but if you have access to a press it only takes 5 mins to do.
i have one in mine and wirth progressives up front from wemoto.
ftr do front springs as well - might be worth giving them a call

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: what brakes?
I have seen the Gold fren pads on ebay and to be honest I was warned off them by someone on the Pistonheads forum, I've not tried them so have no opinion but i respect your view that they are in fact OK, I'll look at them again,
I'll look up ftr cheers
