Bar end size

Post by pinkyfloyd »

As the title says really. As has been documented the bike was pushed over by chavs on the right side. the prev owner had a static drop on the left side so both Bar ends are slightly scratched and not fitting right. They tighten up so far and then wont anymore.

Anyways, On the hunt for some new bar ends and I wanted to know the size of the parts I would need. I've seen 17mm and 22mm. I know it would prob be easy enough to measure it myself but I've just read the poor sods thread about dropping his wife and family into the engine and trying to blu tack them out again and I'm now scared incase, just by reading, his bad luck has rubbed off.

Can't remember off hand, but usually Harleys and fat bars without tapers get the large sizes, everything else is smaller.
But most bar ends are universal, so unless you're going to fit standard ones it shouldn't matter.

If you're going to fit standard ones, the inner weight might also need to be replaced.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thank you sir

I was thinking about these but since the Storm wasnt mentioned I wanted to see what size our bar ends were to see if it would fit.

I think the bar ends have a notch in them which limits what you can put on, take one off and you'll see what I mean...

No, that's just the mating section which fit into the bar insert. Just tap the bar insert 10mm further in, or remove it entirely.

It's a weighted section to reduce vibration.

Right my next question is...... As seen in the link. The weighted insert is attached to the bar end on the Egay selling page. So do you think I can just slot the screw parts into the bar that I have now or do I take the weighted insert out of the bar.

If I should take the insert out of the bar....... How?

And yes I really am this daft when it comes to motorbikes. I'd rather have people on here that know what they are doing rolling their eyes at me thinking I'm daft then have to come on and ask for help because I've buggered it up.

Thats what I get for spending my adult life in a kitchen rather than learning about bikes.

It does come out, but TBH it might be easier to just get ends that will suit the inserts, as you initially said.
Otherwise, just insert a piece of rod and tap them further up the clipon.
