DE-tuning a VTR

Post by klu »

Hi guys,

I'm gonna be getting my first VTR in the next couple of weeks, but one thing has me worried; the fuel consumption.

Is it possible to detune the engine a little to improve the fuel efficiency? Not a whole lot, just a little to make the bike a little cheaper to run (5-10 BHP)

I'm coming from an SV650 so it's not like I'll miss the few BHP anyway...

Thanks guys

Honda Firestorm VTR1000F VTR 1000 Restrictor Kit - Guaranteed to give you 50mpg for a fiver :shh:

I found the best way to get better fuel consumption is get into top gear on a motorway / dual carriageway keep it steady at 'interesting speeds' while tucked in and fuel consumption improves by 20% ...or get the bus...

33BHP, no thank you!

As I said, I'm only looking for a slight decrease in performance, in much the same way as a dynojet & free flowing can will only give you a slight boost in HP but rape your MPG.

Applied tightly on the wrist of the right hand like a bracelet - eventually the throttle hand falls painlessly off due to cutting off blood supply thereby lessening performance and improving fuel consumption QED

not necessarily. with higher lift & longer duration cams, dynojet kit, laser cans, bmc filter, ignition advancer etc, i get way better fuel economy than when it was standard.

the firestorm's poor fuel efficiency is a myth. if you are used to a sv you won't notice much of a difference tbh

Klu,
I've not tired this myself, and if you do I definitely recommend getting the bike checked out with a dyno run, just to double check you're not running it too lean.

Have a read of the last two paragraphs at the bottom of the page in this link:-

Chris.

PS. Tattoo 8O so how many mpg is that :?: Something must be wrong surely.

I usually get 42 mpg on a decent run anyway - 36/37 when riding hard. I don't think FireStorms are any more thirsty than sports 600's.

They are most definately thristier, my Storm used more than my SP2 and my SP2 used far more than my K6 Thou. The Storm was the thirstiest but still managed 100 miles before RLOD ( less if brutal with the RH) to a tank without too much hassle.
