Carb setup
I have recently fitted a 2 - 1 exhaust to my storm, unfortunately the consequence is backfiring on deceleration, i presume she is now running too rich as the temparature gauge only moves up to the quarter mark rather than the half mark, can anyone tell me how to adjust the carbs to eradicate this backfiring as the neighbours car alarms are setting off eveyones Dogs after i ride past, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Carb setup
the backfiring will be air leaks around the collector box.
reassemble it proper with some gun gum on the joints.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Carb setup
The lop-eared one is correct, backfires are signs of air ingress allowing unburnt fuel to re-ignite in the pipe.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Carb setup
I have put my hand over the end of the exhaust & the bike cuts out, surely this means no leaks ?

Re: Carb setup
Nope, just that 1000cc's of air aren't escaping every other engine revolution.

Re: Carb setup
I changed my exhausts this week as its MOT time again. Fitted the stock cans and its farting and popping lick mad. I checked the joints and filled a couple of wee leaks with gungum. Its still farting and popping so check the joints again. No leaks or blowing and managed to burn my arm on one of the pipes ouch. So at this point im toally pi**$ed off and come indoors for a cuppa.
After much pondering and drinking tea I head back out with an idea what it is. Sure enough my hunch was right, the fecking bolt I have blocking my carb balance pipe from the front cyl had fallen out. No wonder it was banging and popping. Too much air making her run lean.
Just thought I share that.

Re: Carb setup
Good shout jazz, i haven't checked that yet & wont be able to for a while, i am currently in hospital with middle ear inflamation & infection, which means i have no balance, i am gonna check mine when i have manage to resist the urge to perform involuntary faceplants !
Hopefully this is the cause ?

Re: Carb setup
No air leaking at the exhaust, i am gonna guess it is carb balancing ?
