windy ride

hi guys
went out for a ride yesterday (sunday) with a few mates up to nelsons cafe, on the ride up and back at 80mph plus i had to tuck in due to the wind blasting me, my mates have rf900's and they were sitting upright and sticking with me, at a stop they said they didn't feel the wind, do all vtr's suffer this ? if so i might have to change the bike as i'd like to enjoy the ride and not have to lay down to ride it.

That's one question I've been meaning to ask you Wicky. With that type of screen where does the wind hit you now (guess that will depend on your actual height) and does it affect the handling do you know

It's been many moons ago that I rode the storm with a standard screen - but I found the wind would hit me upper chest and helmet - (I'm 5' 10" and perfectly proportioned - i.e just about average ;) This was on the test ride over a decade ago and the first thing I bought was the new screen. With the flip screen it pushes to oncoming air so it just clips the top of the helmet - to avoid any buffeting I just need to slightly crouch/lean forward into a calm pocket of air. Makes +90mph sustained cruising a breeze...

I too thought it was windy out on my bike yesterday, was down to 2nd gear climbing up Elloughton dale nr home. Over the top, flat out on the downhill slope top speed was a couple of mph down on what I normally get but no worries still going well. Quite a few bikes out yesterday passed a couple going into Beverley. Near Seaton saw a clean red Firestorm going the other way, waved to him but no response. Met up with the wife in Hornsea so put the bike in back of her Micra to come back home. 26 miles, top speed 38mph, one hour 35 mins, a good day for cycling

Cheers Wicky for the info, at least I now have a good idea what to expect from one of those screens. I realise it will vary slightly from one individual to another depending on riding position and body height.

with Tony's storms, you have to lean forward not because of the wind hitting you; its to keep the bloody front wheel on the road as she still wants to pick it's head up at over a ton.

mine just wants to blow me off the back at a ton
