Clonking front forks

Post by Pop H »

Over the winter I took time to rebuild the forks on my ,98 Storm. Replaced springs with Hagon units, fitted new inner and outer bushes, rebuilt as per the manual and there is a (small) clonk on full compression. Is this normal or is there something else I should check? The head bearings were checked, re-greased and adjusted at the same time.

Try turning the rebound adjuster out a couple of turns, depending on where it's set it might be bottoming out on the seat.

And the screw underneath the lower end of the leg my be loose?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Or may be head bearings just need adjusting if you stripped them for inspection. If they are the standard ball bearing type (original OEM) and you do replace them at some point, best to use tapered roller bearings.
