any body try and match the silver paint on the engine block?
any body try and match the silver paint on the engine block?
as per the long title. there is some bubbled corrosion lifting the paint on the spare engine I have bought, and before I fit it I wanted to do a quick touch up. Any body found a good colour match that works on aluminium and the heat of the heat of the engine?

i dont think you will get better than this stuff mate http://www.firwood.co.uk/wcsstore/Firwo ... /mkt75.pdf
unlike the crap they sell in halfords, this stuff does not fade or flake.
i used it on my headers (now using the black)
you can get it either in rattlers or in a tin for brush application, though it can be thinned and sprayed.
if you thin it proper and use a good brush you wont get brushstrokes.
theses heaps of pigment in it unlike the piss thin sperex and other cheap crap

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

link went straight to the pdf, but now had a look at the website. the hight temp one you use is only for steel, the one for Aluminium is only in black.
the below 250C paints look an option at it is aluminium colour but is £30 for a 5l tin, and I only want to touch up a couple of spots

OK I can now adviose that the following are not even close as a colour match!
1) Hammerite Smooth - Silver
2) Halfords high temp engine spraypaint - aluminium satin
the Honda colour is much darker
Any body found a good colour match?

You could take a sample and have someone make up a matching paint?
I dont know if they do that for high temp paints, but they might do and would be worth a try? There is a place near me that mixes and matches paints while you wait. I could always call in and ask him if he does stuff that would work on the engine?

Spectra Engine Enamel is as good as any factory finish.Used it for years.
Re: any body try and match the silver paint on the engine bl
there is a nack to spraying silver ....... thin coats
if you put too much on in a coat the silver goes darker

Darker would be good!
I am not trying to do a full respray, only to match the existing paint to touch up the areas where corrosion has bubbled the surface.
looks like it is more pewter coloured than silver, but still not found a colour match, let alone one which is oil & heat proof!

Do you have a spare engine part in the colour you want? I live fairly near RS paints, Welham Green. They have matched paint for me before and produced rattle cans etc. I will willingly take said item to them for you if it's an option. Let me know.AMCQ46 wrote:Darker would be good!

Kev, thanks for the offer, dont have any small bits I can take off, its the dark silver colour that the heads and the block are painted with [only those parts, so not planning to take them off just yet
] ...........looks like aluminium, but it is a protective paint finish.
should be the same on your engine, so if you could show them your block it might be close enough.
Thanks
