Should the Firestorm wheelie?

Post by Miztaziggy »

Does / should the Firestorm wheelie off the power alone in 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd?

With my last bike, I used to just roll on the throttle in 1st fairly gently and the front came up easily, in 2nd it would go light at about 80mph if I was trying to overtake too quickly or something.

I expected the Firestorm to wheelie a little easier since it is supposed to have the torque, but even when trying, it seems to struggle to get front up even in 1st. Is there a knack to it, or do you have to clutch them?

They're much longer and heavier at the front end, so a bit more effort needed.
Also if you've jacked up the rear and dropped the forks through the yokes it'll make it more difficult, too.

But if you fit higher bars it's easy again
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

There is a bit of a knack as they are heavy old birds, but it should come up in 1st on the power , role off to load teh front end at about 4000 revs and wind it back on.

I tend to go for 2nd gear with a pop of the clutch..........again just below 4000 revs is the magic point on my bike.

i have more or less mastered the art of managing to keep my front wheel on the floor lol.
imo it takes practice to stop the storm wheelying.
especially fast take offs 1st into 2nd and hitting 3rd at the redline.
nearly had me a few times coning out of bends fast... i dont like wheelying round corners lol.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Mine will wheelie on first on power, but only a few inches.

It depends what bike your comparing it to OP. My mates 08 blade makes the storm feel impossible to wheelie. Yet anothers rc8 makes the storm feel wheelie mad!

The Storm was easy to wheely on the power in 1st, compared to the SP2 it was positively flighty! Should come up fairly easy with a change in body position (more upright) full throttle in first and up she comes 8)
