F3 vs SP1

Post by Dave A H »

I would like to fit an SP engine into my f3 storm.
Is it straight forward ? What problems will I have?
Thanks for any advice

Major work needed to make this work.
The rear swingarm on the bikes are different; the frame's longer on the SP and braces the swingarm mounting.
But you could possibly get mounting plates welded onto your frame....

The SP engine has FI, so you'd need to get all of that, including the wiring harness, engine management units, etc.

No idea about engine mounting points, they might be different too.

Cheaper to buy a crashed SP and put Storm bodywork on, but TBH I can't think why you'd want to.

And SP engines are about £700+ secondhand anyway, also a fair number have been raced.

My humble opinion? I think you'd spend fortune, and end up with a quick bike with running gear that didn't handle or brake well.
Sell the F3, buy and SP1, but ride one first, they take a little getting used to.

Thanks Tony you've answered the question.
I bought a SP engine with factory plugs in.i.e. o miles thought it was a good deal and I forgot about the f3,sp differences! If you hear of someone wanting an SP engine let me know.
Thanks again

yeh mr honda had the same idea but decided it was easier to completely redesign the bike.
almost nothing is the same on the sp.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Why not look for an SP1 with a blown engine?

You're halfway there...

They're a popular lump to go into kit cars, dune buggies, etc, and it'd liven up a golf buggy a treat!

That's why they hold their price so well.
