Front Sprocket Movement??

Post by Storm Trooper »

Have had to cut my chain off to replace it as it developed a few very very tight spots. Not even soaking it in oil and a few cleans and soaks helped it. Actually felt like the rear wheel bearing had collapsed, but everyhting there is free as a bird when the chain was off, cause they are quite new.

Any how it has not done too many miles, so the sprockets are fine, they were replaced at the same time as the chain which is now fooked.

Question is the front sprocket has about a 1mm or so sideways movement on the shaft. No movement on the shaft for rotation which is fine, but should there be the sideways movement? :confused

Any recomendations for a Good Chain, without breaking the bank?

Cheers

Side to side movement is normal.....so that is OK

Putting new chain on old sprockets is a hot topic, some people say dont do it, others I know swear by running 2 chains before replacing the sprockets. I would say its up to you.

As for a low cost chain........cant help yoyu there, i always go for the top end X-ring as I think the Storm torque wrecks cheaper ones

I know they say to replace sprockets when doing the chain, but really the current sprockets have no sign of wear at all.

Saying that with the price of chains on their own it may be more viable buying a kit for very little more.

Was a Stealth X-ring gold chain on and it has been well and truly wrecked. on closer inspection it looks like the tight spots have come from bent pins in a few of the links!!!

Crap....

Trawling the net just now for a new one.

Cheers

cheap chains = false economy.
they dont last 1/4 as long as a good did or tsubaki 530 x ring, HD job, well oiled and cleaned regular.
i adjusted mine maybe 3-4 times last year and put over 14k on it, with another 2 this year without adjusting.

a cheaper chain would be in the bin by now.
but yes, change the sprockets at the same time... ive tried getting away with it in the past and its not worth it lol.

go for the best you can afford, always x ring, did or tsubaki for me.
get a laser pointer for checking alignment as well
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
