Went out for a ride today, got back and noticed I had an oil leak from the rear cam cover. C**t! Stripped it down, cleaned the mating surfaces up and had a look at the gasket. All seemed good so I've stuck it back on. I'm going to have to keep an eye on it and if it continues, fork out for a new gasket. I've also been getting hugely increased milage between fill ups. Over 100 miles before the light (16ltr tank) where it's usually about 80. Thought I should have a look at the carbs and right enough, they were a fair bit out so I went ahead and started to balance them (that blanking bolt is a right fecker) but half way through, the vacuum changed. Normally when I blip the throttle the bars on the gauge shoot up but they sort of just flipped and when I blip the throttle now, they go down and the engine sounds like sh1t. What have I done? I managed to get them reading the same but the bars were still dipping. Anyway, it was getting late so I put it all back together and took it for a spin to see how bad it was. Odd. Feels bloody great when Im riding it now despite the vacuum bars dipping on the gauge, though accelerating hard from under 2k in high gear sounds even worse than it normally does.
Anyway, enough rambling and onto the questions.
1. Why did the bars on the gauge reverse and start dipping? What have I wombles up?
2. Where the hell do I get the brass plugs and blanking caps to replace the blanking bolt?
3. Is my oil leak likely to be anything more sinister than the gasket?
Um... help. I think... though maybe not?

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!
Re: Um... help. I think... though maybe not?
Maybe a vacuum leak somewhere?.I'm sure that would cause it to run lean and thus get more mpg.
Re: Um... help. I think... though maybe not?
The chances are you either got something trapped or the rocker cover gasket wasn't seating properly when it was refitted. Keep an eye on it like you say.
Not sure what has happened with the balancing of the carbs, but I would check for any splits in the vacuum hoses to start with (as Tat_Man suggests). If you have a Scott oiler fitted check that connecting too.
You can buy four brass adapters from here http://www.carbtune.com/ then sell the other three on here.
Chris.

Adaptor?
Try the Benny suggestion, use a bicycle pump valve adaptor tube....
Funnily enough at the Midlands workshop day recently something similar happened, the adjuster backplate was partially seized against the other plate, and didn't move against the adjuster spring pressure.
Once lubricated it moved ok, though.
Perhaps yours freed itself while you were adjusting it?

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
