Suspension settings

Post by Tim Tindall »

Hello to all.
I'm a new member and have become one on behalf of my son, who doesn't have a computer !
He has bought a VTR Firestorm and loves it alot. He says the bike does not feel right round corners, not planted etc. He does not know the first thing about suspension and although I have a few bikes I don't really know the VTR. We don't know if the previous owner has altered the suspension.
Does anyone know the basic settings so we can put them to it and see how it handles ? My son is 6ft tall and weighs about 13 stone.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Mike,
Just been on the web to look at revolution racing but it looks like it is just a car racing team ?
Where are they ?
Regards,
Tim.

i am much shorter but make up for it by being substantially heavier.
the rear shock on the storm is quite hard though the damping is good.
the front is way too soft, which is fine if you just bimble about & use the bike as a commuter, but as it's a nippy bugger, if you want to get a move on you will (like you have) notice it's way too soft and wallowy & the preload doesnt really do much.

roger at revolution will bill you about 250 - 300 for reworking the forks and by all reports the bike will handle like a dream (not a superdream lol)
instead of that i put wirth progressive springs in mine and a yacugar progressive spring in the rear at a total cost of about £140.
i have the preload set on 6 1/2 rings out & damping 3/4 turn out.
the rear is on the soft setting, 1st notch..... forks dropped 10mm & rear jacked with 5mm spacer..
by christ it goes round corners lol!
definately no more running wide or reluctance to tip in & responds very well to aggressive countersteering.
much much better than standard & the adjusters actually do something now - just half a turn on the preload makes a noticeable difference.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
