Gear changes

After reading the numerous post on the clunky shifts, what is the best method to use with the least abuse to your transmission?[/b]

use the clutch from 1st to 2nd but keep the revs in the low to mid range when changing and then ***k the clutch and do clutchless changes the rest of the way up. Get the rpm right and the wrist action (oh err) and you won't even notice the changes (it's hard to explain (like doing wheelies) but load up the gear box from the throttle - dip the throttle and slide it in). It'll take abit of practice but well worth the reset in the end. I have always changed gear like that with no problems, the only bike it didn't work on was me VTR1800 cos me things the gearbox was a tad large, well the clutch cover was the size of a dustbin lid, gowd knows how big the internal gears where.

Thanks Del!
I tried it today and it seems to be fine if I preload the shifter and run the rpms up before shifting. You don't really even know it's in the next gear. The only problem is still when I can't run it up, ie. too much traffic or not enough room. I hate just holding it in the same gear at more or less a constant rpm. Like you on most of my previous dirt and street bikes I only used the clutch on takeoff. This trans doesn't shift as easy with out without the clutch as my others. Again, thank you for the advice.

Thats coz its an 'Onda mate, they're all like that!!

If you keep persevering with the cluthcless changes it seems to smooth the box a bit and eventually it becomes bearable.
I've got 30,000 on mine and while its not exactly Suzuki slick its not at all bad

Also, make sure your chain is at the correct tension too coz that makes a fair bit of difference.

Had my storm from new and I've never been able to change up using the clutch without crunching the gears - unless that is I let the revs die to tickover (tractor like!). Clutchless changes seem much slicker and quieter, and work better the harder I welly it.
She's my idea of beauty and thats what I ride.
