camchain life? new CCTs?

Post by omoi »

hi all
i'm in japan, ride a '99 domestic model, with some mods.
been getting that ticking noise, bike is at 60 000km, mostly city riding, speed cameras and cops are rare here.
i ordered new camchains and CCTs.

opened it up today, valve clearances are still spot on, ive never had to adjust them.. i fitted the new CCts - an upgraded version from Honda.
the part no. finished with 013 instead of 003.
i compared them, visually no difference.
is this upgraded version new or has it been around for a few years?
does it solve the problem?

also, what is the life expectancy of the camchains, should i change them too or can i get more out of them? please tell me more! i don't have a puller.
cheers

best to check with honda, alot of their stuff changes parts numbers, even bolts etc. Err, the puller will be for the front cam chain to remove the flywheel then. For the rear you will have to remove the primary gear etc, coolant and oil too. Err a good indication is that the timing mark on the flywheel and cam wheels don't line up properly. I think if you have bought them then fit them.

Omoi, cct's must be new, the 003 cct's are still the only ones on my system, however if they look the same, it may just be a new part no. for them.
