Factory Ignition Advancer

Post by Bink »

Has anybody got one of these fitted?

How do they work and where do they go in the engine?

Just seems funny that such a small bit of metal would make a lot of difference in power & torque?!

I've fitted one.
Drain your rads, pop off the clutch casing(if you are careful you don't have to drain the oil) and there it sits, just infront of the clutch basket.
A pig to get off and very little gains for your efforts. All it does is advance the time the spark fires in relation to the cylinder rotation (4 degree s normally).
Because the spark fires sooner after top dead centre you have a slight increase in compression which inturn gives you a little more power.
On the down side poor fuel is a no no (knocking-preignition) and causes greater stress on your end bearings.
Not worth the effort in my opinion, wouldn't do it again (not for 2bhp anyway)
Put a larger sprocket on the rear, easier, quicker to do and a real world noticable gain.

Thx Pete...
I sounded all a bit too good to be true ... especially as they don't back up their statement with any figures.

The sprocket option is very attactive and will do it when I replace the corrent chain. It has a tight spot in it which leaves my left hand numb due to the vibrations!
