I thought the Storm came out of it reasonably well for a bike that's barely been touched in seven years. Good all rounder, will get you there safely and still be fun. A touch of tweaking on the forks and you're away. :)

Mind 143 mph is still a load of cobblers (see elsewhere on this forum)

Stop reading sh1t in mags by people who don't live in the real world. I would love to get 1 of these boys on a track again on my storm just like i did a few years ago on a zxr400. Tossers the lot of them. They make my blood boil. And yeah i have had a bad day at work. The only way to find out about a bike is to book a test ride and make up your own mind.

I read the mag and I also thought it came out quite well;

I quote "Seat is great wide and firm" "Nice good low speed balance and light controls" "Stable, easy to turn" "Slimmer than the SV1000 for filtering" (which of course is a good thing) "Engine is as quick as a supersport 600, but instead of a screaming wailing top-end, it casualy grunts along in the way only a twin can"

However I totally disagree with the following comment it made; "keep the revs above 7500rpm for maximum progress"!!??!!?? HELLO "BIKE" mag; This is a low-revving, torquey V-Twin - NOT a 4-cylinder. If you want to rev a bike that much, buy a 4-cyclinder bike.

On RIDE'S test last year, it actually bet an SP-2 on roll-on tests because of it being carbed (which is apparently slightly "faster" than injected bikes like the SP-2 - this also apparently applies with cars as well)

I also agree with Egg - You can't beat trying a bike yourself and making up your own mind (otherwise if we took the mags to heart, we'd all own R1s and GSX-R1000s and ZX-10s)

The 'Storm still sounds good to me!

Egg,
you are quite right................ however i bought a firestorm and had it for a year and was pleased with it for most of that year. then once i had saved enough money i traded it in and bought 'in my opinion' something better.
I have put a number of posts on this site whilst having a storm and my last one was along the lines of 'when honda update the storm with a new model i will probably switch back'...............still waitng but im happy as larry with the SV :D

Well......... I have no forking idea what the 'bike' mag had to say, so is somewone able to scan it and post, then I can pass comment :)

As for the SV one word comes to mind 'ugly stick' but thats just IMO, the VTR is old, but its proven over and over again.

FWIW the SV isent selling very well over here,Suzuki have just droped the price of a new one 'again' down to $13,000nz thats bout 4333 pounds right?
cheers Darryl

Ohh...... bit strange that as they do not have any secondhand Sv's at all... they have 3 demo Sv 's though thats how popular they are up here. But they do have a pre reg VTr in yellow thats been in their showroom for 3 years! as well as 2 second hand ones + my old one.
I got their last stock of the 53 Blue sv.....................
You can get some crackin deals on new/pre reg 53 plate Sv's for about £5k........you can get a storm for the same.........IMO the sv's the one to have having had both. And also modded both in similar ways

Steve Trow,
Can I ask; is it true that the SV buffets you unless you are either A) right down beneath the screen or B) bolt upright (can you actually sit bolt upright on one of those as they look quite a racy riding position?)? I read this in a mag (I think it was BIKE) and have considered buying one in the past (before deciding that the 'Storm is for me!

 :?:

PS everyone; Sorry, can't afford one yet - made redundant from my job of 11 years recently (boo-hoo). Haven't got job yet - studying law (have been for a a while) Then I'll be able to afford a new bike every month!!!!!!!!!

What will do

Post by bluesman »

Well, none of those bikes was heat of the crowd, right? And SV not it, just as well as our belowed Storms.
But does it make a difference? If you want to hit liter top sellers - go and buy Blade or R1 or Gixxer...or ZX10 if you seriously nuts 8)

RC51 SP2 engine in CBR1000RR chassis with less radical riding position - I'll go for it any time -from any of mentioned SVs, my darling Storm, even Tuono (if I'd have Tuono).
That's IMHO the ultimate winner, that Honda will probably never bring in :?
There must be some reason for that thou - and reason is marketing. Let's be fair: buyers are not queuing up for big sporty V-twins, except Duke or RSV (not sure about RSV - those guys went bankrupt).
Even all-great (and all magazines said it is all great) RC51 never made it over inlines.
Numbers (BHP, top speed) and snobism still beat common sense, and always will.
