I can't beleive you don't like them. I think the old shape SV is one of the nicest bikes of all time (new shape isn't so nice). Over here they are very popular (Surely if you wanted a "learner" bike from your choice of GS & SV, you'd choose the SV?) Although I own a GS500 myselfDD wrote: ps: but who would want a SV650 anyway

As for the CB500 topic, the old CB500 is a bit top-heavy and dated (although apparently it's supposed to be a great bike to ride

EGG wrote:A bit strange thats there is no second hand ones!!!!!! maybe because that the resale value on SV's is so bad. You can get a brand new 1 for a tad over 4 grand, funny that when they came out there were about 7 grand. Me is starting to think they are not very good but hey each to their own. They got it right with the 650 but cocked up with the thou. It's about 8 years to late.steve trow wrote:Ohh...... bit strange that as they do not have any secondhand Sv's at all... they have 3 demo Sv 's though thats how popular they are up here. But they do have a pre reg VTr in yellow thats been in their showroom for 3 years! as well as 2 second hand ones + my old one.EGG wrote:
Yeah the old storm is next to the 100's of SV1000's that have not been sold.
I got their last stock of the 53 Blue sv.....................
You can get some crackin deals on new/pre reg 53 plate Sv's for about £5k........you can get a storm for the same.........IMO the sv's the one to have having had both. And also modded both in similar ways
I've only done this post so I have the record number of quotes-on-quotes

(I must have too much time on my hands)

I know which I'd rather do 400 miles in a day on, the 'Storm or a supersports 600? The 'Storm I think!
Or ride on a strange twisty road - the 'storm beats most things hands down - on the track, maybe different, but I don't go on the track!
Done 26,000 miles in 4 years on mine without a hiccup - pegs down sometimes and touring Europe other times. It isn't perfect, but I don't think that bike exists.
Still manage to beat most things when the going gets twisty, simply because so many have bought new Fireblades/R1's etc then can't really ride them to anything like their potential.
I don't think I could ever get rid of my 'Storm because it's MY bike!

I had a quick look at the northwest autotrader today while the car was being mot'd...........I counted 9 storms for sale of varying year and miles. Some around £2500, one at over £4000 with 700 miles on.
2001 model for under 3k.
Only saw one Sv1000s on an 03 plate for £4200 with a few thou on the clock.
So yes they both depreciate but a simple example illustrates the "Sv's depreciate big time" as a bit untrue...
Maths as follows......
Sv1000s otr at £5300 ( thats what i paid so forget hideous list prices).
The vat on the above is about £930 and includes the usual otr fee..road tax and reg fee..
We all know that once you leave the showroom you lose the vat and all the other crap you get ripped off on as thats the way it is.....
so your riding away on £4372.50p.
So the 03 plate secondhand Sv at £4200 is still a bargain for the seller / new owner as the owner has lost the Vat etc....and £137.50... not bad really knowing youve had it a year and a half... been the first rider/owner....know that no one else has been titting about with it.
Also happy with the knowledge that when you sell it in the trader you will probably be the only one selling. A slightly differrent story with the vtr unless you pay well under list which is about £7k....

List price is officially £6600
Most dealers will do it for around £6200 - £6500
Streetbike, Halesowen, West Midlands = £5999
I was looking at one today (brand new - not registered) at Wylie and Holland, Telford, Shropshire = £5848!!! (Bargain!)

If I'd got the money I swear I would buy it (but I can't
