Fitting Manual CCT,s
Im just waitin for some manual cct.s off troy just waitin for him to get back to me. How hard are they to fit yourself just wonderin wether to attempt this myself or am i better to just get a professional to fit them cheers guys

Best done yourself - Just follow the guide to the letter, and give yourself 4-6 hours and have all the tools and parts to hand. Any problems whilst your doing the job just post and add a pic if necessary.

Yes you should do it your self, it sounds daunting, but print the instructions on removing ccts that are in the knowledge base section, and if in doubt stop and ask. One of us will give you a phone number and we can talk you through it.
Most important is to get the tdc correct before removing the cct, and to put rags down the cam chain tunnel so you don't drop a bolt down there.

Cheers for your advice guys. Bike went for mot today but the garage recomeneded i just replace the automatic adjusters rather than use manual ccts, ive been told that by 3 different garages now one was a honda garage so i wasnt suprided but the other 2 are race tuners in my area and they said id have to keep adjusting the manual ccts myself. What is the difference between havin the manuall ccts over the standard honda ones and how often do they need adjusting. Im willing to give anything ago

personally after reading all the posts about front cct failure costing a fortune to fix i'd go with manuals, they only need adjustment as and when needed i've had mine since feb and haven't had to yet.gwellsbury wrote:Cheers for your advice guys. +1 on Alec's comment, fitted mine in February and no adjustment needed as yet. The peace of mind manuals give you is worth the effort alone. When I got my storm I didn't want to use it in case I ended up with an expensive engine repair I couldn't afford, but I now have complete confidence in the bike.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I kind of agree with the tuners that the self adjusting design is better for road use, but because the Honda part can fail with now warning and cause £400 worth of damage, that means it is a crap option.
The hybred solution is to get new Honda parts and do the stopper mod to them, then you have the benifit of self adjustment, and the securety of a failsafe feature.
This is what I use, but every one has their own view on this [manuals vs auto], but the only wrong decision is to rely on standard parts.

I fitted my APE manuals over a year ago and no adjustment needed (after over 10,000 miles) and if they did then at most a couple of hours work adjusting them compared to £550 bill & 2 months off the road when the front Honda auto CCT imploded (35,000) - seems a no brainer to me

Cheers for all the advice think ill go for the manual option abit iffy about trying to fit them myself but well ill have ago the guide seems quite helpful. Where can you get hold of the manual ccts i did contact Tray and had a reply off him but needed his paypal address for payment. Really wanna get this done asap so i can use the bike

A couple of hours? What are you doing? You don't have to remove ANYTHING and it takes me about a minute per cylinder to adjust. To be fair they didn't really need it but I was just trying to fine tune. As long as you don't screw them out to the point of no tension, you don't have to do the timing or anything. Just undo the locking nut, screw in till finger tight then back out half a turn and redo the lock nut. Thats it. Read my post again, I've never had to adjust them after intalling them - yet... ,Yup doing the rear pot easy - though from installing the front one as it's an APE with the nylock nut and the access hampered by the coolant pipes , tank and airbox I was just guesstimating roughly how long it could take at max , inc tea & tab breaks :-)

All you need to do is squidge the coolant hose out the way with a finger whilst you undo the nut, then poke your hot and sweaty in above the hose to screw it in. Bit fiddly but only if you have big hands. And you are quite correct. I misread it. Or rather read it but didn't take it in
