Tips & Advice pls - forks, head, valves

Post by BigVeeGrin »

Getting to grips with doing my own work and these are next on the list. I have the Haynes manual and the downloaded ones, so any specific advice on tools, tips and any errors in the manual.

1. Front fork - oil change. Never been done and mines a 1999 bike.
2. Head bearing - I detect a slight clonk and movement when coming to a halt, the wheel bearings are fine.
3. Valve clearances - to my knowledge never been done.

cheers guys

Search facility on this forum is your friend.
All of these subjects have been well covered in the past, but broadly, no, no special tools or techniques needed beyond what Haynes tells you.

Fork oil weight and air gap are better using 7.5 weight and 145mm air gap for most people, but again search and you'll see all of the opinions and threads about this.
Don't forget stickies in workshop.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
