While my 'Storm is in dry dock following a recent spill I thought I would take the opportunity to check out my forks which haven't been working as well as I believe they should. I was thinking of changing the fork oil to 15Wt. What are other people's thoughts? Also, I don't seem to find any reference in my manual to the thread length of the fork cap in relation to the damper rod. I think I may have mis-adjusted the standard setting during previous work to replace the seals. Any ideas?

Fork maintenance
Re: Fork maintenance
Most change to 7.5wt oil and 140mm air gap. Assume you have already fitted uprated springs as well.
On the damper rods, screw the rebound adjusters in till they are flush, then screw the tops down on the threaded tube till they bottom out, then tighten up the lock nut. Then screw the rebound adjuster back out so you can set the damping to "as fast as possible return but just in control"
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Fork maintenance
the secret valve mod btw is drill the holes in the valves to 1.5mm and use the 7.5 - 10 weight oil.
(as per roger D)
damping between 1 - 1 1/4 turns with std valves but with the mod you will need to reduce it to 3/4 turns out (ish)
roger fits uprated linear springs but i used wirth progressive in mine and they are absolutely top notch, handles like it should and the preload and damping adjustment actually makes a difference now

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Fork maintenance
Pop, I have a set of uprated springs for sale if you dont have them already.
dont think you can see the sales / wanted section till you have 10 posts.
Benny, Having looked at mine I also think Roger re profiles the taper on the adjuster

Re: Fork maintenance
I've recently fitted some progressive Hagon springs so they should be OK. It looks like 7.5 - 10 wt oil is preferable. I think I understand the fitting of the cap onto the damper, I can always confirm the details when I get round to doing the work. Thanks for the advice.
