Hi all .... After the usual late night ebay browsing which usually leaves me trying to get home before the misses so I can intercept yet another parcel.... I decided I "needed" another set of velocity stacks so I could try running the storm on 2 short stacks... I sourced a complete airbox from a breakers for 8 quid + postage which seemed a good deal.
Anyway parcel Arrived today, and on opening to look at the stacks I was pleasantly suprised to find a k&n airfilter still in the airbox... Bargain.
So looks like a bit of carb fiddling for me... 0.5 mm washers under the needle shims? I seem to remember from my searches on here.... And guess I will most likely end up with a flat spot bigger than the Netherlands, until I can afford a propper jet kit and some dyno time, but at least it will give me something to mess about with (till I get round to those spare cylinder heads.)
Air box with hidden bargain...

Be careful!! I remember the post you put on following your attempt at major surgery previously. Don't drop anything down any orifice or if you do, don't throw anything else into the mix!!

Good point I don't want to be starting the "how to remove a pair of needle nose pliers from the inlet manifold ?" thread...Kev L wrote:Be careful!! bog roll is your friend.
as long as you remember to remove it when refitting the carbs
you will need to jet up to get the best out of the short stacks as they will let the engine breathe where it usually runs out of puff.
because of this, the whole mix will be richer from like 1/4 throttle + so don't go mad jacking the needles.
you may also need to up the pilot jets to 48 with k&n....
use the search for part numbers, i posted them somewhere but cba looking

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: Air box with hidden bargain...
Part numbers found... Thanks (again).
As a matter of interest, according to Haynes manual models after 1998 (w,x or y) had size 48 pilots as standard (1997 "v" was 45).... So maybe thats why some people report more low revs trouble, than others when fitting after market filters.?
Guess I need to see how it runs when its in.
