Dynojet kits

Post by markycee »

Anyone got any advice on Dynojet kits.

I recently got a Firestorm on W plate with stock filter but Remus GP cans with 11k miles(it was stored for about 4 years, but ridden round the block once a month). It misfires & stutters between 8300rpm & 9000 rpm. So far, I've drained the float chambers, run several lots of fuel additive through. I've replaced, plugs, plug caps, both ignition module and one coil pack.

It's starts without choke and runs like a dream all the way up to 8300, but hits the same problem everytime I get past this rpm. I thought I could live with it, but I cant! I figured that carbs are the logical next step. The plan is to remove, strip & clean and fit a stage 1 dynojet kit whilst I'm in there. Is it a straight forward job? Do I need a manual to do it or is it fairly easy on these?

Another thing I noticed is that I get approx 45- 50 miles to a tenner of fuel. I cant see or smell any leaks and the plugs dont look too black. I think these bikes are just thirsty right?

I may be way off.. But I'd check that the choke cable is adjusted properly. Mine is a bugger to start if I forget to put the choke on. Also the amount of fuel it's using, as you can't really 'give it some' in it's present condition.

But, a good carb clean and reassemble checking everything on the way would be worth it as it's been standing.

you have issues there mate... the bike should be doing at least 70 miles to a tenner unless you're on a track.
get the pdf manual from the garage and get to know the bike.

high consumption like that i think you have a leak somewhere or a torn diaphragm in one carb, or as suggested, possibly a sticking choke plunger in one or both carbs.

also check the air filter isnt dirty.
definately not normal.

if you got for the dj kit imo they are a waste of time unless you want to spend ages getting it right or 250+ in dyno time.
if you get springs in the kit DO NOT FIT THEM!!! you will balls up the fuelling completely.

when set up properly they do make a difference, but its not a 5 minute job to get it right.
& the factory pro is a better kit imo....
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Hi Benny,

You reckon leave the Dynojet kite and go for a carb kit or something? Does Honda do a carb overhall kit or do I need to check each piece and order as necessary? I suppose the alternative is buying a set of carbs off ebay. There are a few sets on there, but it's impossible to say you're not buying something worse!

Check out the Factory Pro kit from the US, I have one fitted and it's a lot easier and quicker to set up.

Search on here for the thread in Workshop.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Been away for a while, but thought I should update this post for the benefit of others. Sorted the powerloss problem yesterday. I got a set of carbs from ebay £65, fitted them yesterday and it made an incredible difference. Powerloss problem has completely gone and the bike has so much more grunt now. Instead of losing power at 8500, I've got bundles more. The choke also works as it should now. Not sure what was wrong with the other set of carbs, but I will probably strip down and take a look to see if I can see anything obvious just out of interest. Anyway all good now and I reckon I saved a few quid as the plan was to send it to a rolling road tuning place and have the carbs checked and tweeked etc. Best £65 quid I ever spent!
