Help with fitting manual CCT's?

Hi,I've bought some CCT's,from The Pont.I've started getting an intermittent healthy rattle,from the front pot.

I believe the one's fitted are 10 years old,& 16k miles old.

Is there anyone,who would be prepared to help me to fit.The new tensioners?

I live close too J28 M1,if there's anyone local.Who's experienced,at fitting manual CCT's.

I'm prepared to pay too,get them fitted.

Hi Steve,

If you dont get any offers, i would recommend having a go yourself. I only just bought a VTR and it ws the first thing I did with no experience on these bikes. The guides on this site are spot on and it's almost impossible to get it wrong. You dont need any special tools, just follow the guide and take your time (step by step). It's no more than an afternoons work.

Hi Steve,

I'd agree with MarkyCee on this!

I did mine as well just after buying the bike - just make sure you follow the instructions on here (Haynes got the timings a wee bit wrong) and you'll be perfectly fine!

There may still be someone near you who can help though....

Notts is a bit far a way for me, and I dont have another midlands workshop day planned [yet, but perhaps I should]. but I agree with the others, have a good read, print out instructions and have them in the garage, take your time, and come on line if you have any questions and if needed we can talk you through it on the net, or by phone.

Go for it mate. With the instructions on here, it's easy. Make sure you follow them to the letter though.

I've stopped riding the bike at the moment.

It's rattling pretty badly,on & off.I'd rather not risk,the timing slipping!

I've had a go at removing,the crank bolt cover.

Will it move,will it fcuk!! It's not a good start.

The allen key hole,is starting to round off.I know if it goes completely,I'll be stuck before,I've started.

Any idea's on how to remove it?

Yes mate. Use a pointed drift and tap it round from a few places around the hole. It will come loose eventually and a new one is about a tenner.

I think Tony.mon posted some hints on this, have a search, and heat [but not too hot, more hairdryer than heatgun / blow torch] on the housing, then hammer and dot punch.

Not they way you want to treat the pride & joy, but it will work. Put some copaslip on when you fit the new one

And only just nip it up, it doesn't need much tightening, not what you'd expect with a 10mm allen key, anyway.
