factory pro kits

Post by agentpineapple »

hi guys
i understand that the factory pro jet kits are a better option than the dyno jet kits, but does anybody have any experience using the stage 1 kit or the stage 1 kit with titanium needles, also what about the race kit is that too extreme for a road bike?
also i'm led to believe that a bmc road air filter is better than a k&n, and that firestorms are sensitive to air filter changes,
lastly factory pro ignition advancers are they any good, they seem cheap enough, but are they worth the hassle, is there much of a difference in performance?
i've just bought a titanium full big bore exhaust and when i make these changes how much roughly would i need to spend on dyno time.
any help is appreciated........ :?

Some are keen to state that FP jet kits are superior to DJ's offerings. I doubt there is any documented proof to support this and sam quite certain that the assertion is more opinion than anything else. I cn tell you that I have been running a DJ kit for many years now, and in various stages of engine mods and my bike has always had stellar engine response. To be honest, I can hardly imagine it working better than it does now (instant response everywhere). If it helps, Roger D installs DJ kits so I take that as a glowing endorsement of their kit.

As for the K&N vs. BMC debate, the consensus seems to be that on staock engine, the K&N nets you a slight gain on top with a resulting dip in the mids. A Superhawkforum member (Tweety), who just happens to have his own dyno, did a lot of testing with both and found that the BMC (street) worked best all around, compared to the OEM and K&N filters. Of course, with a heavily modded engine, perhaps this becomes irrelevant. I am running a BMC street on my Stage 1 modded engine and it runs very well. I did a brief stint (including getting it dyno tuned) with the K&N but the numbers were inferior (mind you I suspect the filter may have been over-oiled). I could re-oil and try again but dyno time costing what it does, I will stick with that I know works, and that is the BMC.

HOpe this helps......

P.S. Congrats on getting the Akra exhaust.... welcome to the club :)

cheers micky
i think that because for the moment my engine is un-tuned i will go with the bmc street filter, and a dyno jet kit.
i was thinking about getting a factory pro ignition advancer as well. should get the exhaust next week. can't wait to hear it running.
i was down the garage today and took a few pictures of the bike, it's looking in a right sorry state, it won't be long before it all comes together tho. i'm having trouble sorting out a front wheel spindle but i will sort it out soon enough.
i can't wait, it's been 9 months since i rode the bike, because of the accident. i did ride my mates gsxr600 k3 around a trading estate , i never got out of first gear but i had a big smile on my face.....
i send you some pictures when it starts coming together mate......

Regarding the FP ignition advancer, I asked VTR guru Roger D about it and he recommended against it so I let the idea die.

cheers

yes, I am also waiting on a CNC machined rear brake lever from Thurn Motorsport, a set of Apex riser clip-ons (all aluminium, significantly lighter than my steel modded Helibars), and a set of Spider handgrips (the Driven D3s, while very nice, aren't nearly as comfy....)

hi micky
are you selling your helibars?
i'm asking because i need to sort something out for my bike, i got the cbr 954 forks and yokes and because the forks are shorter i need to raise the bars by a fair bit, the top of the forks are flush with the yokes. i think the diameter is 50 or 51mm
i know your running a blade front end but not sure of the diameter your running.
i hope the strike ends soon buddy and you can crack on with the mods, you must be running out of things to do hahahaha.

Hi again Martin,

I will indeed be parting with the Helis but they are only 45mm so they won't cut it for you. The were originally for a Speed Triple but were modded and are now 1.125" taller, giving the same riding position as the Helis designed for the stock VTR forks (which I had on before swapping to sturdier 96-97 Blade forks).

As for the postal strike, well, yes, I hope it ends soon too but it's not as though the bike is running like crap in the interim. Most of the bits are bling (or weight reduction in the case of the Apex risers) anyhow....
