Small backfire through carbs

Post by markycee »

Hi All,

Changed carbs on my VTR recently due to problems at High Revs and since then everything runs like a dream.......apart from..a slight backfire through the carbs. Generally it pops now and then (usually at traffic lights) or if blipping the throttle (hot or cold). Any clues anyone? It's not majorly bad and you can barely hear it through the airbox with helmet on etc, but it's there and buggin me! Is it worth playing with fuel mixtures? It didnt backfire with the previous carbs and I have rechecked vacuum pipes and made sure the carbs are seated properly and clips tightened okay. Like I say, apart from the odd pop, it's a s smooth as anything and bundles of power right through the rev range since I changed them. P.s Anyone know what sort of MPG range these bikes get. I reckon I'm getting 30 mpg thrashing about round town. Is that normal?

Coughing back through the carbs is normal, loads of threads in workshop section about this.

Mileage?
Some guzzle fuel, some don't, seems mostly down to riding style and engine setup.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

turn the idle speed to 1500 and it wont bother you again.
mine coughed and stalled on me while i was leaned round a slow roundabout.
new pants moment, footdown peg legging it to keep it upright 8O
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

"Thrashing about town" got me 3 points and a £60 fine! I would rather the 30mpg
