Ola in need of assistance with investing in a SP1

Post by hgvfitter »

Hi after having a storm last year and changing to a mille then downsizing to my current SV650s 2005 fully faired in black, i'm hoping to sell her and invest into a SP1, as i cant get anything to match the fun i had on the storm.
Is there any faults with them and whats a fair price to be paying for one,
Seen one on ebay for £2400 on a X reg 18k but a CAT D listed.
Thanks for looking and reading

Hi mate,

Pretty safe with an SP1, no major gotchas. Some may have had some track time but look out for the usual signs of abuse. Extremely well made and will out last most Jap equivolents. Biggest downside is whether or not you will gel with the bike, its definately a marmite machine. They are only truly happy when you are on a mission, you can tour on them if you are some sort of Martyr (I did about 800miles in two days) but its not really suitable. Many have had em and still do on this site so you will get some good info. Mine was an SP2 but very similar, on off fuelling, hard as nails set up /seat/suspension but sound like nothing else and stable as a Ducati. Pay between 3-5K for a good one, if you get one for less good on yer. Good luck.

Hi,
Pretty much what Beamish says, I lusted after one for 8 years and took the plunge 2 years ago :D Not the best for pootling about town, but for that use the cage. The faster you go the better they seem to handle, I reckon it is more comfy than the storm (steeper tank, or is it better support for the middle age spread!!!) Mine has'nt got a power commander but I have learned to live with the on/ off throttle, it has 29k on it now and without looking at the reg you would be hard pushed to to age it, they wear well.
If you want a low mileage minted bike you will pay through the nose for it and in my opinion be less likely to use it for fear of getting it dirty  . If you are not going to use it much go for a higher mileage one and you can't go wrong, plus it has not been unknown for a minter low miles one to have spent umpteen sessions on the track with aftermarket bodywork :eek2 so beware of some of the minters
You will also get people looking at it wherever you park it, they stand out from the masses.
Finally the noise from the airbox is highly addictive

Cheers
