Fuel Tank removal
Fuel Tank removal
Just a quick question. I have the 02 model that does not have a fuel tap. The main fuel delivey tub runs to a small unit at the back end of the tank which splits into 2 lines. There are 2 other pipes the overflow & the vaccum pipe & the fuel sender wire. All the manuals I have got do not explain what this unit is & I do not want to remove the main fuel pipe until I know that the tank will not spill its contents all over the place. Please advise thanks
Re: Fuel Tank removal
Thats the fuel tap m8. On one side of it there is a square sticking out pointing forward which you turn with an 8mm spanner (anti-clockwise) i think to turn the petrol off.

Re: Fuel Tank removal
Thanks for the fast reply. However, I cannot see any point on the so called tap that I can turn off. I have added some photos:

Overview of the tank raised

Fuel delivery point from base of tank.

Note, there is no facility to turn this off.
From the last photo the fuel pipe connects into this unit which is attached to the frame. 2 branches lead off this unit to, I presume the carbs.

As you can see I do not want to remove the main fuel delivery pipe until I am happy it will not flood. Somebody must have a model with this configuration, suggestion much appreciated. Thanks

I, well your's is the later model as you say ,my mistake. the unit is still a tap and i would think if you take the pipes off at the tap end quickly and have some bungs ready or pipe clamps.Might be an idea to run the fuel low or syphon some out.

Thanks Wicky for the exploded view. As far as I can see the rock assembly still has no tap arrangement & as I thought. It is also a separate entity to the fuel tank and attached to the frame. Returning to my question to remove the tank will I need to clamp the fuel line??
Re: Fuel Tank removal
You can see from the diagram that a single fuel line goes in the rock assy and two exit to feed the two carbs, Also there's a vacuum hose which is a big clue that you can pull the two hoses to the carbs from the cocky assy which will have a vacuum diaphragm to stop fuel - Looks like you have undo the rock assy off from wherever it secures and take that off with the tank.
Still ensure the tank is as empty as possible - best drain as much as possible out into a suitable container first and make sure the garage is safe etc.

you have the later 19L tank which has no vacuum hose or tap (like mine)darkember wrote:Thanks for the fast reply. However, I cannot see any point on the so called tap that I can turn off. I have added some photos:

you will need to plug the hose with a m10 bolt.
either unplug the single hose from the tee and plug it, or remove the hose from the fuel valve and fit a suitable blanked off piece of hose.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Fuel Tank removal
Ok I thought as much. Would it be practical to clamp the single fuel line between the tank & the rock assembly then remove the single line off the assembly.?

Re: Fuel Tank removal
tbh bud the way the hoses are i wouldnt clamp them myself for fear of kinking them & weakening them.... best to just empty as much fuel as possible then remove the clip off the fuel valve on the tank & pull the hose off.
might be an idea to fit a quick coupler for easy removal next time.
