Help - anyone in London...
AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!
OK, so I'm being totally honest here: I didn't even look at the damn thing at the weekend. Yes, I know, I am an butt (although not one that requires any prodding, thanks...) but I had a pretty crap weekend all in all.
However, I have now reached that point of total bewilderment which means that I have ground to a halt, unable to start doing anything because I don't know which bit to try first.
This is because Slocombes in Neasden, when I called their workshop to ask their advice, decided to tell me that it's the O-rings in the carbs. As far as I am aware, this is a new suggestion but the guy was convinced it is that and he reckons Varaderos and VTRs used to get this all the time.
Now I've done some thinking (which is a pretty dramatic development in itself) and I've worked out that:
1) It ain't electrical - if it was, the bike would behave like this just as much when cold as when hot
2) It ain't rubbish in the fuel line or filter as I've now done about 500 miles, plenty of which have been at high revs, and you know how many times I have had to fill up to do 500 miles! (I now understand fully the VTR's reputation for small tanks and absurd fuel consumption...)
3) Again, if it was squashed fuel lines it would do it all the time, not just when hot
Is my reasoning sound?
So, I reckon it's either carb balancing, incorrect jets or it could even be the O-rings as suggested by Steve at Slocombes.
Now then, I've booked it in to see Steve next Monday and although it's going to set me back a ton, I've told him to work his magic on the O-rings and balance the carbs whilst he's at it. I've also told him to check the plugs and air filter. If it is still not working after that, then it has to be the jets.
Del: if you still fancy coming round to see it, that would be great, or I could come over to you if that's easier? I can only do Weds / Thurs evening, or Sunday afternoon. Any good for you? I don't want to waste your time or cause you any inconvenience...
Cheers,

"...I also think might have chosen the wrong bike if you spend 90% of your time in traffic. Its not really a town bike. You could change the sprockets and drop the gearing, which would make 1st and 2nd more usable. "
The VTR's fine around town. Fairly narrow, not too heavy. Admit to a fair few 1st and 2nd gear changes. I can see over cars though. Aftermarket Cans mean THEY can hear me too
Good wheelie bike. Endo'd it ONCE when I first got the bike when a white van tried to kill me.
Had a ZZR600 myself before my VTR. Nice bike too, but HEAVY. It was like riding a trampoline. Went like a bullet at 4am up the A1 more than a few times. VTR's more flickable though, a more modern bike.
