Thunderbike VTR Firestorm

Performance Bike magazine has been building (Over 12 months) and are now racing a Triumph 995i in the Thunderbike series.
I mention this as amongst the machines racing along side of this budget built 995i are the following bikes,
Kawasaki ZZR400's
Ducati 748's
Ducati 749's
Ducati 916's
Suzuki SV650's
And a VTR Firestorm run and raced by Kevin Van De Worp.
It is this bike that will be featured in one of the next two issues of Performance Bike magazine.
That will be either the August or September issues out in July and August

Thought we would all be interested in this feature, I will get a copy as I subscibe and see if I can get it converted to PDF for you lot.

Saw the Performance Bikes article on the racing Storm in WHSmith but wasn't impressed. Pics of the bike looked good but wasn't going to buy the mag when it described all the engine tuning mods including open airbox, 2-1 exhaust adding up to give 100bhp!

I think the guy needs to have a word with Roger and ride YETI's bike

Not so fast, have a look at the rules:

Depending on the weight, there are upper hp limits, and so tuning it for max torque at or just under the limit (roughly 100 BHP for one of these) will get you a lot faster bike than you think.....
And those modes will add torque, at the expense of HP, so just what is needed.

Not quite so daft, maybe.

Tony's correct.
BHP / weight formula is how TB runs this series. Hence 100bhp for the fire storm and I think 110 ish for PB's Triumph 955i bike.
All bikes are tested at least once on the dyno at the track every year and 4 bikes per race or practice day are tested.
You can end up testing a lot of bike in a day I can tell you
plus most owners do not like it as the testers results are only for the eyes of Dave Stuart and co who sort out any issues. From the dyno run you can also tell who's doing things with throttle stops, power curves etc etc.
They (TB) try and run all the bikes with about the same PWR and allow different capacity depending upon no. of cylinders.
As an aside you can also put your bike up for inclusion and they will let you ride for a race or two whilst they make up their minds. This is why you see FireStorm, Triumphs and even a Moto Guzzi.
DS has put a lot of thought in to his series after he had a run the MRO for quiet a few years before leaving................ Having a break for a year and then starting TB.
IMHO he a top organiser even though I fell out with him.

It's the current issue, I believe.
Easy to check, it mentions the Firestorm in a small box at the top right of the front cover, with a picture of a yellow bike below it (sadly not a storm)
