Penske shock

Post by Kev L »

Anyone stripped a Penske 8983 rear shock? I need to put a heavier spring on the one I just got off E Bay (thanks for the lead BSM). Never stripped a rear shock before and wondered whether it was a home workshop task or best left to a pucker workshop. Thoughts/comments welcome. Cheers.

You need a shock spring compressor, a lot of small garages for cars have them and you might be able to borrow one...
But if you have to buy one you might as well have a proper sussy specialist sort it once and for all.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

BSM, the swingarm is sitting in the garage waiting for me to stop riding the bike and get round to pulling it apart. I put some pictures of the completed arm on the other thread - http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 2&start=15

Tony, I have undone the threaded collar at the top and the spring is now loose enough to move it about 3" from top stop to base. To remove it I either need to disconnect the remote adjuster (at the top) or removing the bottom of the shock. I will take a couple of pics tomorrow to better explain what I am rabbiting on about.
