I think I almost sorted it, well at least got close to the problem. First I took it on a ride to see what point it fails. Once it failed I started hitting the dials, side fairings, prodding the wires etc etc. It still didnt work. So I came home took out the two top bolts and left the bottom one in loose. Went for 10 mile ride and it all worked perfectly. The only thing it can be is a break in the wire loom that gets worse as things are tightened down. Tomorrow I will take the dials out work out which wires are speedo and replace with new. I think (i hope) this will solve it. I'll let you know how I get on.

Follow the speedo sensor lead from the rear cylinder/top of crankcase (right next to rear CCT) and follow it to where it goes into the loom near the battery by the rear brake reservoir.

Oh...ok....without wanting to sound like a Richard....where abouts is that....I just plugged everything back into the appropriate connectors....I don't actually know which plug is for what....does it plug into the loom under the clocks where the 2 banks of connectors are?
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

You sir are a god.....followed it....got half way up the lead and spotted/felt burnt and crispy.....burnt and crispy enough to have burnt through the protective sleeving :eek2 chances are the wires got crushed together during the refit....but i'm guessing

Now....do I strip the protective sleeve back and repair the wire/s and refit....or as I have a nice newish spare...do I use it and risk knackering it....because at the end of the day I don't really know why the one on there burnt out in the first place
