Name that part?

Post by vtryorks »

Fellas,

I have a couple of rather unsightly hose ends on my bike which I'd like to replace as they are terribly rusty and I dont think they will clean up.

If I want to find replacements, what is it that I am looking for exactly? I'm not sure what they are called. Anyone help?

Here it is:

As Tony Mons is away I'll step in with...........Julian....That seems like a nice name.

Me thinks really it's an oil line, I dare say you would have to replace the whole thing as it will be crimped. (hmmm crimped...yeah defiantly Julian.)

I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm or deny the above part recognition soon.
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

Hmm I think for £120 I might try to clean them up or source some from a broken bike first. Eek!

Its for both sides, including the full pipe that goes to the radiator, at first I thought it was just for the braided hose sections. Still seems steep!

Ahh well you wanted new chrome oil pipes too didn't you.

Try some rust remover paste/gel maybe?

Oh and on the chrome pipes, maybe sand down and paint black, or powder coat yours?

Made an enquiry for some which look ok.

Yeah, I did want to replace those chromed pipes too, so it might work out OK.

MIne are in similar condition and was wondering if you could get an aftermarket jobbie which is made of better materials :?
It'll all be OK in the end and if its not OK then its not the end

Never heard of a direct replacement; I fitted an SP1 four-row oil cooleer with braided ss hose instead of the rusty pipes, wasn't cheap, though.
I posted a thread on it, probably in workshop- try searching for "oil cooler" if it's of any interest.
But it used the original fittings, which are pretty rusty on yours.
They could be cleaned up, though, chromed even if you wanted.

But I found that a full bellypan hid them nicely!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I just painted the crimped connectors with silver Hammerite.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
