Fork Braces!

With the coerce one, it can be fine tuned to account for slight tolerance differences when the bikes are made, like thickness of paint etc.

Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

Yeah, also makes it viable to fit on other bikes, older cbrf's etc!

Its just a case of attach the 2 clamps to each fork, drop on the plate which has grooved slots instead of set holes and tighten! Id imagine this way lessens the risk of fork binding as your not fitting a solid piece which if over tightened will pull the fork legs into each other!

Does anyone recommend having the wheel off to do this, or at least the pinch bolts slackened?

From what I have read it was slacken axle pinch bolts, fit and tighten/torque the brace... and the top should be around 3mm down from the fork seals... and then retighten the pinchbolts.

So the slotting and bolting of the middle plate is a preferable direction.. makes sense to me!

I keep looking at these too - I can see the increase in rigidity really helping (I'm old skool - always had them on the bikes of my Yoof - and until I recently sold my GT550, that had a Daytona fork brace)

All the Coerce stuff looks sexy,

Nora, Only my opinion, but I wouldn't slacken off the pinch bolts on the fork legs, especially the left hand one as that one can move in or out on the axle. You want the fork legs to stay in the same correct position as they were before fitting the fork brace.

I agree, get everythong else lined up as per the manual, bounce the forks up and down, then thighten the axle pinch bolts................only then fit the brace. It has to be adjusted to fit the true operating spacing of the forks, not the otherway round.

How about £25/30 quid for a top yoke off Ebay, a bit of chopping and machine work would'nt it do the same job??

I like your way of thinking, but in a nutshell NO. The top yoke fits on the fork stanchions, the brace needs to fit the sliders which are much bigger in diameter.

So do I, believe me! lol

He seems like a decent guy, big user on the forum etc, although giving the grief we had over here not too long back I am a bit restless! lol

I think I payed a bit too much to begin with so to loose £300 would be a pain in the butt! lol

I see what you are saying now Chris, I had it in my head that it fitted under the bottom yoke, yours will of course be more effective :biggrin

Nora, I'm sure it will be fine. Remember the saying from "Only Fools And Horses" He who dares Rodney, he who dares :plainsmile

You could side it all the way down to the tops of the sliders, then you would have a really rigid front-end
That was meant as a joke before anyone tries it :)

Or there's these ones:
http://www.superbrace.com/proddetail.asp?prod=2260

But anyone with a vertical milling mc could make these up for just the cost of a billet of ali and two cap heads.

Anyone want to volunteer?

or if you have a vertical mill and can't drive it I'll pop round and have a play.....
Might make one for you, too!
