Starting trouble.

Post by AndyNixon185 »

Hi folks,

Just bought a Firestorm about a month ago and this is my first post, theres loads of cool information on here so thanks!.

I'm having a little intermittent problem with starting, this morning i pressed the starter button and it just made a 'click' noise, did it again and it did exactly the same, then on the 3rd time it was fine. This happened again when I started it up on the way home from work.

I'm presuming it's a loose connection somewhere?, I'm not completely mechanically minded so I thought somebody could point me to the first place to look please :).

Many thanks!.

Greetings - check that the battery connections are clean and tight - then work your way through the starter solenoid through to the starter motor (check under the rubber hood where it bolts in + keep it vaselined as it gets the brunt of road crud).
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

It will most likely be corroded connection to the starter motor. Exactly the same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago.

The cable just crumbled when I pulled it off the starter motor. It takes abit of a beating, being position behind the front wheel. I just crimped a new bit of cable on and was good to go.

Awesome, thanks very much for the quick reply, I just had a look and as you said Steve it just fell off, I gave it a good crimping. Seems to have done the trick.

Where abouts in Chester are you from Steve?

Pleased I could help.

Guilden Sutton mate. Whereabouts are you?

You don't happen to ride that silver firestorm which I keep seeing about everywhere. Also pass a red firestorm near Tarvin everyday.

Cool, my Miss's lives in guilden Sutton, I'm in Newton.

Yeah it's silver, it probably is me that you have seen because I have seen another silver one flying about. Do you have aftermarket cans on?.

I'll say ello next time we meet. I dont think i have ever seen the red one around Tarvin.

Aye. I've got carbon quill cans on mine. I nodded my head last time I past you but got nothing back! lol

You head up North Wales much? I'm struggling to find people to go riding with round here.

Sorry mate!, i was probably too focused on thinking.. 'is that another VTR!?'. Lol. It wasn't even that long ago either was it.

Yeah i go up there quite a bit, my mate has got a ZX6 and another mate with an SV650 and we rode to deamon tweaks in Wrexham, A&D in Denbigh, Woods in Abegele and then on to LLandudno. I go up to Horseshoe pass sometimes and been to betws y coed too!.

I'll let you know next time we go for a blast and Feel free to give us a shout on here if you fancy a good ride somewhere. Next time I see you I'll definitely nod! :) .
